"Just be who you are, calm and clear and bright." - Richard Bach, Illusions: The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah

Queen Liz, part 2

Elephant skull, detail.

Here is the leopard shot I promised you—photo by Kate. It was stalking alongside our SUV looking for dinner for a good ten or fifteen minutes, so we got to admire its easy graceful movements at surprisingly close range.

What we look like when we are looking at something wild and new and interesting.

Still all lovey-dovey after ten years together. (Candid shot, by the way.)

A family of banded mongooses (yes, mongooses), spotted at the hostel restaurant just after breakfast.

Crater Lake. There were flamingos down there, but even with binoculars they were tiny pale pink dots.

Made me think of Sleeping Beauty and the forest of thorns outside her castle.

We went on a boat trip in the afternoon to see more wildlife in the water.

As we passed a fishing village we spotted this guy and his awesome hat.

Thoroughly adorable kiddos on the boat with us.

Hippo poop explosion at close range. The other one didn’t seem to mind that his face was in the way.

And I shall conclude this entry with the best booze ad I have ever seen:

(All Uganda and Rwanda entries here.)

What fabulous photos! That hippo poo explosion is ridiculous! 🙂 I would love to be able to visit Africa one day.

What a great national park! I have never seen so many amazing animals in the wild.

Hi! I'm Camille. I only write stories that could never ever happen in real life, though I do believe in real-life magic. If we were in the same room I'd fix you a cup of tea, but for now we'll have to settle for a virtual connection. I'm really glad you're here.
